Who:

Open to singers who reside in South Florida during the production period who wish to be considered for Auxiliary Chorister positions in the Florida Grand Opera Chorus.

All voice types will be considered, with particular interest in Altos and Tenors.

Audition requirements:

Three memorized selections from the opera, oratorio, and art song repertoire in three different languages. One must be in Italian. Selections may or may not be heard in full.

One of these selections must be an opera aria

Range assessment

It is not necessary to bring your own pianist, one will be provided. Please come prepared with legible sheet music for them to read.

Audition panelists:

Jared Peroune (Chorus Master), Jennifer Tipton (Company Manager)

Evaluation criteria:

A demonstrated level of musicianship with attention to correct pitch, rhythm, dynamics, phrasing and interpretation

Solid vocal technique

Accurate diction

Adequate volume for size of the theater

The ability to blend the voice

Stage presence and dramatic intention

To schedule an audition:

Please send a performance resume and your audition time availability to Dr. Jared Peroune at jperoune@fgo.org by Friday, May 15, 2026 by 5:00 PM EDT. Specific time requests will be considered based on availability. Once your materials have been received, FGO will contact you to schedule your audition. You must schedule an audition ahead of time – applicants without a scheduled audition time will not be heard. You will be notified of your confirmed audition time by the evening of Wednesday, May 20, 2026.

FGO does not provide transportation expenses for choristers from their home to rehearsals or performances in either Dade or Broward counties. Compensation for all choristers shall be in the form of hourly fees for all rehearsals and a performance fee for all performances. The Florida Grand Opera Chorus is a part-time professional chorus. FGO Chorus rehearsals take place on weekday evenings and weekends. Wages are subject to the AGMA agreement with Florida Grand Opera. Florida Grand Opera is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

ABOUT FLORIDA GRAND OPERA

Florida Grand Opera produces classic grand opera, contemporary works, and new commissions in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. Founded in 1941 as the Opera Guild of Greater Miami by Arturo Di Filippi, it merged with Opera Guild of Fort Lauderdale in 1994, and is now under the direction of Maria Todaro.
